Introducing Our Guest Professor for the Summer Semester 2026: Oksana Mikheieva

oksana-mikheieva_Wand_Heide_Fest 900x600Professor Mikheieva teaches at our partner institution, the Kyiv School of Economics. During the Summer Semester 2026, she will offer two courses addressing the topics of Soviet totalitarianism and occupation zones in Ukraine.

Her research focuses on various aspects of migration processes related to war and forced displacement, with particular attention to the social consequences of conflict and displacement.

Professor Mikheieva has held several prestigious international fellowships, including at the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University (HURI), the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna, the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) in Berlin, and the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin.

In Summer Semester 2026 she is teaching 2 courses at European University Viadrina:

  • War, occupation and borders: daily lives under occupation and the violence of territorial demarcation (Wednesday, 11 am to 1 pm, European University Viadrina, Gräfin Dönhoff Building, GD 201)
  • ‘Ordinary’ totalitarianism: the phenomenon of the Soviet system and its consequences (Thursday, 11 am to 1 pm, European University Viadrina, Gräfin Dönhoff Building, GD 206)
